Coolers
Coolers are places just after the pellet mill in a pellet production installation. It is used for the cooling and drying of the hot pellet.
There are three types of coolers used in the modern feed industry: the horizontal, vertical and counter-current coolers. Each type has some basic advantages.
Counter-current cooler
Advantages:
- Takes up little floor space
- Requires little volume of air
- Good function even at the beginning and the end of production
- Little maintenance
- Limited initial investment
Disadvantages:
- Cooling is not homogeneous if the product is not well distributed over the entire surface
Vertical cooler
Advantages:
- Takes up little floor space
- Mechanics are quite simple
Disadvantages:
- Not suitable for very fine products or products containing a great deal of powder
- Limited capacity
- Can damage the pellets
Horizontal cooler
Advantages:
- Requires little height
- Very high capacity
- Can be used with many types of products
Disadvantages:
- Complex mechanics requiring maintenance
- Cooling problems at the beginning and end of production
